Awhile ago it was announced that Anna Paquin’s Rogue was in a scene for X-Men: Days of Future Past, but it ended up being cut… or so we thought.
It turns out that Paquin’s name was still featured in the final DoFP trailer released yesterday. Fox has officially confirmed that Rogue will be in the movie, but basically as a quick cameo rather than having a significant role.
I’m curious how she will even come into play but I definitely wish we could have Rogue back in the action with everyone else; however, it’s going to stink when we notice her on screen and she’ll be gone before we know it. Either way, it’s a shame they had to cut her scene, but maybe we’ll see her in the followup film, X-Men: Apocalypse.
I’m really pumped for Days of Future Past and the third trailer even made the movie look better than before. Assuming they continue their hot streak with this and First Class, I think X-Men: Apocalypse could be one really crazy movie.
There have been rumors swirling about Channing Tatum being discussed to play Gambit in future X-Men movies and also a possible spin-off of some sorts, and it looks like those rumors are slowly becoming more true. Tatum announced in an interview that he has talked with producer Lauren Schuler Donner.
Not much was stated about the meeting, but Tatum seems to really have an interest in the role and hopes that everything can come together. He finds appeal in Gambit’s borderline heroic nature and how he still enjoys drinking and smoking but “happens to have a good moral center.”
Tatum has even gone as far as starting to work on an accent if everything does work out and he gets a chance at the role, which is honestly pretty cool. I’d love to see Gambit make an actual appearance in the X-Men films and this past week Bryan Singer brought up that he hopes to include the card-slinger and Nightcrawler into the Days of Future Past follow up, X-Men: Apocalypse, so maybe there is a chance for Tatum to get in on these movies.
Personally, I have been warming up to Tatum a lot and think he is more diverse than people give him credit for. He certainly looks like a superhero and I think he could pull off this role well, but we’ll just have to wait and see!
It looks like Corey Stoll is about to join the cast of Marvel’s Ant-Man movie that is due out next year and stars Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas.
Stoll first caught my (and many other people’s) attention with his portrayal of Ernest Hemingway in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, and more recently did a great job as Peter Russo on House of Cards which really boosted his notoriety.
I’m definitely glad to see him grab a role in a Marvel flick and am curious to eventually hear which character he will be cast as. The Ant-Man film is definitely coming together with an Edgar Wright feel, which I think is what this character needs. Paul Rudd seems like an excellent fit with Wright and I am definitely glad to see one of the staple characters of the Marvel comics finally make it on screen.
Alright so we finally have an official major poster for the two month away X-Men: Days of Future Past, and honestly, it just feels soooo disappointing. I think that the first thing I need to address is clearly, why does Professor X look like he is blasting off into space? Horrible positioning of him and the flames below. Then, I think it’s stupid that they placed Mystique as one of the largest characters on the poster when she probably doesn’t have that huge of a roll in the film compared to…umm, maybe Fassbender as Magneto?! I think that’s pretty frustrating, if only it could be the young Magneto next to Wolverine.
I honestly would have just preferred to see them mimic the classic Days of Future Past comic cover, which I’ll post below. It would have been at least a little cool to see the cast framed in the head shots, sigh… Hey, at least they decided to keep Evan Peters’ Quicksilver off of this; that honestly would have made this one of the worst posters ever.
Well, it’s only a poster, and the movie should still be awesome, so it’s not the end of the world. Here’s the original DoFP comic cover.
A new photo popped up earlier today of Karen Gillan as the space pirate and mercenary, Nebula, in this summer’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I’m super blown away by how amazing the character looks and honestly think Gillan looks pretty perfect in all of the picture that have come out so far. I loved her in Doctor Who, and while this will be a totally different role, I’m totally confident that she will kill it.
I really, REALLY, badly want to see Guardians hit theaters and have mega success, and my biggest fear (like many other people’s) is that being such an unrecognizable Marvel title will end up harming it. However, between being a product of the mega successful MCU and seeing all of these phenomenal photos, I can’t do anything besides nerd out and continue to get more excited for this movie.
Like I keep saying, Guardians of the Galaxy will hopefully be one of the top summer blockbusters and fulfill all of my super-fan hopes, but we’ll have to wait [for what seems like forever] until August 1st to find out!
So Fox has been announcing a lot lately, mainly revolving around their future releases. The company is (most surprisingly) already pushing forward with Fantastic Four 2 (although the first hasn’t even started filming yet and I don’t even think they have officially made an announcement about the cast), a third solo Wolverine film, and an untitled Ridley Scott movie.
I think the FF movie is already setting up to be pretty miserable and fail once again, and I honestly don’t care about whatever Ridley Scott is working on, but people are anticipating it is the sequel to Prometheus. What I’m here to talk about is that the third Wolverine movie looks like it will have James Mangold back along with Hugh Jackman at least one more time. This would be Jackman’s eighth time stepping into the Wolverine role and seems like it might even be his last.
Ugh, I want to see this on screen SO BADLY.
Jackman is appearing in the upcoming Days of Future Past and then this third Wolverine film, but after that the character could easily be recast to better fit this younger cast and fresher portrayal of the X-Men franchise. Fox and Bryan Singer also have announced the plan to follow up Days of Future Past with another awesome X-Men story: Age of Apocalypse, which will again mainly feature the new team of young heroes. I have really enjoyed Jackman in the Wolverine role, but think if they were going to recast him using a big feature like Age of Apocalypse, with plenty of other characters to put the focus on, would be the right time. As much as I would love to see Jackman don the traditional Wolverine costume (especially after it being left out of The Wolverine for continuity reasons), I also think they should save it for Age of Apocalypse to refresh Wolverine’s look and give the character some new life. This would also keep Jackman’s Wolverine run separate and unique to him.
Obviously I’m just creating speculation on my own opinions, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens, but Jackman will be 46 this October while they seem to have been slowly transitioning the X-Men movie franchise into a fresher and younger cast. I really enjoyed The Wolverine, and am even more excited to watch the extended R version, so I am definitely glad to hear that Mangold and Jackman will most likely team up one more time for another solo Wolverine movie.
I’ll be on the lookout for more news about Jackman’s future status as Wolverine, but Days of Future Past hits theaters in 2 months on May 23rd and it looks really promising – it will also be awesome to have Wolverine back with the X-Men crew, especially the younger cast so definitely check it out!
A four minute preview trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier came out earlier today. I’m pretty pumped for this movie, and to make things even better the preview opens up with immediate action. Cap jumps out of the back of a cargo plane with no parachute and then takes down all the thugs on the enemy ship. We even see/hear a quick glimpse of Georges St. Pierre as Batroc the Leaper!
The last minute of the trailer seems more traditional with scenes of The Winter Soldier in action, Capt chasing him down, with traditional character monologue quotes laid over the video footage.
This was really awesome. This movie is going to really awesome. Marvel is just really damn awesome.
I liked how the trailer gives us the teaser preview in the beginning with the short scene clip but then dedicates the second half to an actual trailer – some nice bonus content from Marvel to give fans the best of both worlds. They pretty much show footage of all the main cast and not just Chris Evans; Sam Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Robert Redford, and like I said, even Georges St. Pierre.
I think that Captain America: The Winter Soldier looks really really awesome and is continuing the trend of phase two’s movies being a little darker.
Man, April 4th is just under a month away, but I wish I could go watch this movie right now!
What did you think of the preview trailer?
